Dr. Cozzette Lyons-Jones

Dr. Lyons-Jones led medical teams to provide care in India, South Africa, and Rwanda. She also provided health care assistance to earthquake-ravaged Haiti in 2010 with the NGO Giving Children Hope, headquartered in Buena Park, California. Dr. Lyons-Jones was invited by U. S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters to present a status update on Haiti 5 years after the earthquake.   She has participated in lobbying efforts for Global AIDS funding through her affiliation with the American College of Physicians‘ Advocacy Committee.

Advocacy

As an advocate for improving global health care, Dr. Lyons-Jones also served as chair of the annual World AIDS Day programs in South Central for several years in the early 2000s, providing HIV/AIDS education and on-site testing at the 10,000-member City of Refuge Church. She lobbied on Capitol Hill for Global AIDS funding, Graduate Medical Education funding, and opioid and chronic condition reimbursement policies.
